Notes from the producer:
We haven't made a dessert wine in more than ten years, and we're delighted to be able to offer a tiny quantity of new effort. This wine hails from the Zero Vineyard, a small family farm on the warm, northern end of Alexander Valley. The well-ripened grapes were pressed frozen, so that the press juice was an amazing 42 brix, creating a wine of 23% residual sugar and 10.5% alcohol. This process captures both extremely high sugar levels as well as concentrated natural acids, creating surprising and welcome balance in the wine. The aromatics of citrus blossom, quince, and loquat mix on the palate with complicating notes of golden raisin, cardamom, and white pepper. The wine is surprisingly light on its feet, and the finish simply doesn't quit. This wine should age, as they say, for the duration; in fact, we recently discovered a cache of our 2005 sweet wine in an uninsulated barn and it drinks like it did on release.
